Common Wealth Games !010, New Delhi, India - New Delhi, India .

After all the recent negativity, the CWG 2010 sprung to living with absoluteglitterati at the opening ceremony. Right from a 7-year-old Keshava playing thetabla with 100 percussionists to the crowd giving Pakistani contingent a rousingreception to Hariharan`s unique Swagatham to Rahmania sweeping with Jiyo UthoBado Jeeto; it was an evening to think for India. Welcome CWG 2010.

Keshava, a 7-year-old boy was the genius of the grand opening ceremony of the CWG2010. When he got to match beats with 100 percussionists and A R Rahman at theopening ceremony in Delhi, the world was clear at India's feet. Keshava with7000 others at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium showcased India to the earth as thecountry began its feat of hosting its biggest ever event on a grand scale.

It was a big bang start to the State Games 2010 in New Delhiafter a blockbuster opening ceremony, which was nothing short of anextravaganza. Back in Melbourne at the end of 2006, when India was handed overthe rights as the next hosts, there was a huge bollywood-style blitzkrieg inMelbourne. And now showed just why.

When Suresh Kalmadi first came out to speak, there was mixed response fromthe stands. While Kalmadi was booed from the stands, when he mentioned the nameof Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit during his speech, the crew received itwith a massive applause. Kalmadi also made sure he thanked Sonia Gandhi andFormer Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the same tone.

The PrimeMinister Dr.

Manmohan Singh summed it up in only a few catchy one-linersensuring every book he spoke left the participants with a pleasant feeling aboutthe games. Manmohan said, " Welcome to India. India is a greatcountry."The burden was on President Pratibha Patil, who but a few daysago was reportedly upset at not being invited yet to the big event withsufficient notice and also with regards to confusions over inauguration. But,she put all that can in extending the British Prince camaraderie on this veryspecial occasion. The peculiar moment came from Prince Charles when heread out the substance from the baton, that of Queen Elizabeth. The King said inher message, " It is peculiarly fitting that the 2010 Commonwealth Games arebeing held in India. I firmly believe that if countries can compete for sports, they can firmly come together for repose and togetherness. India will be anexperience of a lifetime." Prince Charles later declared the gamesopen.President Pratibha Patil also preferred keeping her speech fairlysimple. "Let me wish athletes success. India is a diverse country with richheritage and you will live it. To my fellow Indians, let us showcase truehospitality that India has ever shown," she said. And she ended saying, "letus begin the games."
